Division News: The West Virginia Division is working with WV State Senator B.W. Bailey to get a Stonewall Jackson historical license plate issued in conjunction with the upcoming War Between the States Sesquicentennial in 2011. The plate would be available to the public with a portion of the proceeds used to fund WBTS preservation projects in the state. Lt. Col. Elihu Hutton Camp # 569, Beverly WV is planning a 100 year rededication of the Mt. Iser Confederate Monument at the Mt. Iser Cemetery in Beverly in 2008. The monument was built by the Randolph County Chapter of the UDC and originally dedicated on September 30, 1908. Next year's rededication ceremony will be a Division-wide event with members from around the state participating. The WV Division SCV has been invited to participate in the preservation and development of the Corrick's Ford Battlefield Park in Parsons, WV. A portion of the original battle site has been purchased by the city of Parsons with funding provided through a state highway grant. The Battle of Corrick's Ford was a relatively small, but significant engagement. It was here that CSA Gen. Robert S. Garnett was killed, the first general on either side to be killed in the war. The WV Division is proud to participate in saving this important historical site. It is with great sadness that I report to you that the West Virginia Division recently lost our last Real Son, Mr. Onnie Mitchell of the Col. George S. Patton Camp # 1593 Coal Mountain, WV. Mr. Mitchell was residing with his daughter in Tennessee at the time of his passing. Our sympathies go out to the family of Mr. Mitchell as we say goodbye to our comrade and last Real Son.
