  Dear Compatriots,

I deeply regret to inform you of the passing of Compatriot and Real Son
Woodrow "Woody" Wilson Plaugher at approximately 6:45 PM Sunday, June
22, 2008. Woody succumbed to an infection and pneumonia as he struggled
to recover from a problem aorta in his heart. The family said Woody
passed in his sleep.

As many of us know, "Uncle Woody" asked the Ohio Division of the Sons of
Confederate Veterans (SCV) to honor his father, Private Jacob Harvey
Plaugher, C.S.A., (146th Regiment, Virginia Militia) with a graveside
memorial service in Lima, Ohio. Plans to hold the memorial for June 8th
were postponed when I received word in late April that Woody became ill
and could not travel. Since then, he spoke often of coming to Ohio to
hold the memorial service. He had not been to the grave of his father
since the 1930s.

Woody was the last of 29 children born by his father and the last to
pass to his reward. Woody was a member of SCV Inland Empire Camp 1742
and an active member of his Masonic lodge (PM) and Order of the Eastern
Star chapter (PP) in southern (of course!) California.

Cards of condolence may be sent to the Plaugher family at 750 Union,
Orcutt, California 93455.

In honor of the Private Plaugher and Real Son Woody Plaugher,
Quantrill's Raiders Camp #2087 has begun a fund for the purchase and
installation of a Southern Cross of Honor for Private Jacob Harvey
Plaugher. The marker will about $150 to purchase and install at Private
Plaugher's grave. If you or your camp or chapter would like to
contribute to the marker, please make a check out to "Quantrill's
Raiders Camp 2087" and in the memo box please note: "Private Plaugher
Cross of Honor Fund". The mailing address is: "Private Plaugher Cross of
Honor Fund, c/o Camp Commander Scott Morris, 1345 Eastwood Ave, Mayfield
Heights, Ohio 44124". A report of donations and expenditures will be
made to the Ohio Division.

The family is now more desirous of seeing the memorial service is held,
not only to honor and remember Private Plaugher, but to also remember
their "Uncle Woody" as well. The family has set a new, tentative date
for the memorial service. The new date is Sunday (Grandparent's Day),
September 7, 2008. As soon as this date is firmed up, or another date
selected by the family, I will let you know.

I believe it our duty as descendents of Confederate Veterans to make
this a memorable event for the family and in the memory of two fine men.

In Honor of Old Virginia, and Compatriot and Masonic Brother Woodrow W.
Plaugher,

Scott Morris
